Barbara’s Perspective: Our Award

We interviewed Barbara Fuchs, a long-time patient, to learn about her experience with The Ghosh Center. Barbara has also been a hospice volunteer and received recognition from President George H. W. Bush’s Points of Light program.

What can you share about your treatment?

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 when I was living in Wisconsin. Having lived in a number of different states, I received treatment in many places – and had good and bad experiences. After we returned to Iowa, I had a mastectomy in 2003. That’s when I was referred to Dr. Ghosh. I’ve never looked back.

Tell us about your experience with Dr. Ghosh.

Dr. Ghosh is completely dedicated to his patients. He’s always looking into new ways to get me into remission. Whatever he suggests, he’s direct and honest and leaves the final decision up to me. I’ve had a lot of doctors, and he’s the best.

How about the staff at The Ghosh Center?

His nurses deserve a lot of praise. I’ve received very good care from them. They’re always there for me when I call or come in. Sometimes I feel pretty bad when I come to the office, but I always leave feeling encouraged with reasons to keep going.

You stayed with Dr. Ghosh when he opened his new office in 2011. Tell us about that.

Dr. Ghosh gave me choices when he left PCI and provided names of other doctors in case I wanted to transfer my care. I’m glad I stayed. The nurses respect Dr. Ghosh and came with him when he opened the new center. Having the same core team has made a real difference. The new office is completely up-to-date and very sufficient for everything I need.

What’s your reaction to the news that The Ghosh Center just received a major award?*

I’d be dumbfounded if Dr. Ghosh didn’t get an award. He devotes his life to patients. He and his team are the reason I’m still here.
